Why CBD?
CBD oil has been studied for its potential role in easing symptoms of many common health issues, including anxiety, depression, acne and heart disease. For those with cancer, it may even provide a natural alternative for pain and symptom relief.
CBD's exact mechanism of action is unclear. Unlike THC, CBD has a relatively low affinity for cannabinoid receptors in the brain. These are the molecules to which THC binds to elicit its psychoactive effects. This is why CBD will not get you "high". A CBD isolate will have zero THC while a full spectrum with THC will only have the legal limit of 0.3% THC. While it's a small amount of THC it is enough to trigger the entourage effect.
The entourage effect helps maximize the therapeutic effects of CBD oil. This phenomenon, called the entourage effect, results when the many components within the cannabis plant interact with the human body to produce a stronger influence than any one of those components alone – it's a synergistic effect.
CBD is thought to influence other receptors, including opioid receptors that regulate pain and glycine receptors involved in the regulation of the "feel-good" hormone serotonin.
Proponents claim that CBD oil can aid a wide variety of health problems, including:
- Acne
- Anorexia
- Anxiety
- Chronic pain
- Depression
- Drug addiction and withdrawal
- Epilepsy
- Glaucoma
- High blood pressure
- Insomnia
- Muscle spasms
- Parkinson's disease
Some of these claims are better supported by research than others. It is the hope that legalization of cannabis in general will open the doors.
